Copy trading, grid bots and recurring buys are the three “hands-off” options beginners search for most. They save time, but they don't remove risk. Learn how they work, then start small.
Recurring buy, grid bot or copy trading?
| Option | How it works | Best market | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recurring buy | Buys a fixed amount on a schedule | Long-term, no timing | Paper losses in long downtrends |
| Grid bot | Buys low, sells high in a range | Sideways | Price breaks out of the range |
| Copy trading | Mirrors a lead trader | Depends on the trader | Trader mistakes, liquidation |
In short: total beginners start with recurring buys, try a small spot grid next, and copy trade only with spot or low leverage.
How to set up a Bitcoin recurring buy
A recurring buy (DCA) invests a fixed amount every day, week or month. You buy less when prices are high and more when they are low, which smooths your entry price and removes the “when should I buy” stress.
- In the OKX app, go to Trade → Trading bots → Recurring buy (names may vary by version).
- Pick the asset. BTC, or a BTC and ETH mix, suits beginners.
- Set the amount and frequency, for example 50 USDT a week.
- Keep enough USDT in your account and start the plan.
With Bitcoin swinging around $84K in September 2026, “is it too late to buy” is the most common beginner worry. Recurring buys exist exactly for that.

Grid bot settings for beginners
A grid bot draws price lines across a range. When price drops to a line it buys; when it rises to one it sells, profiting from back-and-forth moves.
Three key settings
- Price range: use recent 30-day highs and lows. Too narrow and it breaks out; too wide and it rarely trades.
- Number of grids: more grids mean thinner profit per trade and more fills. The AI parameters are fine to start.
- Investment: only money you can leave alone. Test small first.
Grid bots aren't “set and forget”. In a strong trend, take profit or stop, and reset the range if needed.
Futures grids use leverage and can be liquidated in a one-way move. Beginners should start with spot grids.
How to pick a lead trader
- Track record over returns: three months or more through ups and downs beats “300% in 7 days”.
- Check max drawdown: lower is steadier; be careful above 50%.
- Check copier count and retention: long-term copiers with positive overall PnL is a good sign.
- Spread across 2–3 traders: don't put everything on one person.
- Always set a copy stop-loss: for example stop copying at a 20–30% overall loss.
Copy trading on OKX happens inside the app; you never hand your account to anyone. “Signal teachers” asking you to transfer funds or install another app are scams.
Bots pay trading fees too
Every order placed by a recurring buy, grid bot or copy trade pays normal trading fees, and grids and copy trading fill often. Accounts opened via the invite link get 20% off fees for life on these fills too.

Copy trading & bots
questions.
01Do I pay lead traders on OKX?
Lead traders usually take a profit share when your copy trades make money, and nothing on losses. The rate is shown on their profile. Never pay anyone privately.
02Can copy trading lose money?
Yes. Lead traders make mistakes and futures copy trades can be liquidated. Always set a copy stop-loss and use money you can afford to lose.
03Are grid bots good for beginners?
Spot grids suit patient beginners in sideways markets. In a sharp drop they hold growing paper losses, so check them regularly.
04How much should I put into a recurring buy?
An amount that doesn't affect daily life. Consistency matters more than size.
05How many bots can I run?
You can run several at once, but each locks its own funds. Start with one.
06Can I use trial funds for bots?
Some new user trial funds work with specific strategies or futures. Check the voucher terms.
